It’s summer here in Texas already and I love nothing more than lemon or lime italian ices. I’ve been experimenting with my Body by Vi shakes and finally came up with one I think others will like, too. I did make one that was pure lemon italian ice but it was made with water and I know not that many folks like their shake with just water, ice and lemon concentrate. I love sour, tart stuff.
Anyway, here’s the recipe to this one where the strawberries add that sweet touch.
Lemon Strawberry Italian Ice Body by Vi Shake
4 large strawberries (frozen or fresh)
2 tsp lemonade kool aid powder (or lemonade concentrate of your choice)
1 cup of ice
1 cup of almond milk (or your choice of milk, alt milk, etc.)Blend away and enjoy!
“I’m having surgery in my mouth next week and won’t be able to eat anything that isn’t really soft because I’ll be in a lot of pain. Since I won’t be able to work out much, should I still have protein shakes, or is there something else I can eat?”
Depending on the extent of your surgery (and obviously any food allergies you may have) there are plenty of foods you can eat until your mouth heals.
Protein shakes are going to be your best friend… but the thing is, they don’t always have to contain protein powder. Look into pasteurized egg whites such as those by Muscle Egg Egg Whites. They don’t taste ANYTHING like eggs.. in fact they have a chocolate and a chocolate caramel flavor!!! You can blend any flavor of that with some fruit or veggies and healthy fats and you have yourself a meal, but in shake form! You can also do some shakes with protein powder as well, just don’t do it for EVERY meal! Greek yogurt and cottage cheese are other great options to add to shakes, along with fruit, veggies or healthy fats!
Green smoothies actually taste really great and there are a ton of recipes available online. In addition, their are ENDLESS possibilities for protein shakes.. so get creative!
Here are some options….(But don’t feel limited to these)
Protein Options:
- Greek Yogurt
- Cottage Cheese
- Protein Powder
- Egg Whites
Healthy Fat Options:
- Natural Peanut Butter
- Natural Almond Butter
- Natural Cashew Butter
- Flaxseed Oil
- Coconut Oil
- Avocado
Liquid Additions:
- Unsweetened Almond Milk
- Unsweetened Coconut Milk
- Unsweetened Flax Milk
- Skim/Nonfat Milk
- Water
- Sugarfree Juice (Not a great option, but if you must..)
Fruits & Veggies:
Get creative.. honestly just about anything will taste good if mixed well!
- Spinach
- Kale
- Banana
- Pineapple
- Berries
- Apple
I’m often asked my opinion on Lara bars, Luna bars and other protein bars. While I understand these bars are convenient on-the-go (I myself have resorted to protein bars too!).. it’s far better to make your own at home! That way you can control what goes into them.. as many of them are laden with unnecessary chemicals and sugars.
Just yesterday, I baked Jamie Eason’s Lemon Protein Bars.. which are AMAZING!!!!

- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda

- 8 oz baby food applesauce
- 4 oz water
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix oat flour, vanilla whey protein, salt, baking soda and crystal light, in large bowl. Mix egg whites, Splenda, applesauce and water in a bowl. Sarah Tucholsky, then a senior at Western Oregon University, had just hit her first collegiate home run when she blew out her knee rounding first. She would be unable to circle the bases, and rules stipulated that when she came out of the game for a pinch runner she would be credited with only a single. Then a curious thing happened, as Mallory Holtman, the first baseman for the opposing Central Washington Wildcats came to the aid of Tucholsky and helped carry her to home plate. Sports may never see a greater act of sportsmanship. (via Uplifting Moments in Sports - Photos - SI.com)
So you just had a break-up. I know how it feels, I’ve been there. No matter what advice your friends throw you, the idea of simply moving on seems impossible.
But should you take this advice for granted. Well, you shouldn’t. Here, I listed 10 songs you should have in your break-up playlist…

Oreo Cookie Protein ShakeIn a blender, just add all the ingredients and blend to however you like it.
